Huskies Red in Brantford Tournament
The Huskies are enjoying the break between Christmas and New Years by competing in the Wayne Gretzky International Tournament.  It's a nicely organized tournament with plenty of teams and competition from both sides of the border.

The first game Saturday morning was against the Waterloo Wolves.  Although a team that the Huskies regularly play, it was still fun to meet them in a tournament setting.  The team came out strong and took control of the game from the start.  Good work by everyone including Dawson B. in net who did not face a lot of shots, but stopped those that mattered and kept the momentum with the Huskies.  Nice goals by Andreas S. who moved up to the wing for the first period to fill a hole, and by Carson T.  who made three great moves to take the puck in from the blue line and beat the goalie high on the glove side.  In addition Kevin F. scored once and Matthew M. got the final two goals to round out the scoring.  Matthew M. was the MVP for the opening game.
Game two was against the Amherst Knights.  But after a large team meal of chicken wings, chicken fingers and pizza, the boys came out a little bit sluggish.  The Knights scored first capitalizing on a mental mistake that left the puck sitting alone in front of the Huskies net.  The team could not clear it in time and it wound up on the wrong side of the goal line.  The Huskies had plenty of opportunities throughout the first period, but could not bury their chances.  Every shot went off a blocker, glove, mask or missed the net entirely.   It took a penalty for both teams to get the game going for the Huskies.  Playing 4 on 4, the team was able pin the Amherst Knights into their own end.  I was the Yellow lines turn to shine, as they scored two goals on one shift and put the Huskies ahead by a score of 2-1 at the end of the first period.  Both goals were put in by Noah M. who was in the right place at the right time with his stick on the ice picking up the rebounds.  Also credit goes to Mason G. and Nate C. for getting some quality shots to the net. The team then went to sleep for most of the second period and gave the momentum back to Amherst, who scored again to tie it up.  But Noah was on fire this game and close to the end of the period, he picked up another rebound for his third goal and natural hat trick.  Noah also scored his fourth goal and fifth point of the game later in the third period.  Another pretty goal came during a line change as Matteo R. controlled the puck in the offensive zone.  Carson T. jumped onto the ice and raced for the high slot.  With his head up, Matteo fed a nice pass over to Carson, who sent a rocket of a shot up and over the goalies blocker.  Nate C. and Matthew M. added goals, and the team gave one back to Amherst for a 7-3 finish.  Noah is named as the MVP for game 2.
Great job boys, keep on rolling.
