Mid-way through the Playoffs
Well, it's half way through the first round of the playoffs and the Red team is holding its own.  After a rough start the boys have settled in and are playing some good hockey.  This past weekend, there was some good news and some bad news.

First the bad news, the team did not win either of their games.  But the good news is that hey did not lose any games either.  A tie against the Huskies Blue and tie against Kitchener Red, keeps the team steady in the standings.
Both games were exciting to watch and close on the scoreboard.  Although the boys had to keep coming back from a deficit, it was good to see them never giving up and working hard.
Saturday afternoon with Dawson in net against the Huskies Blue, they played a tight game which went back and forth for all three periods.  The Blue team scored first midway through the second period but the Huskies Red answered back before that period was over when Matthew and Nate combined on a nice give and go play.  With the score now tied, the action slowed down as the Blue team, seeming happy to walk away with a tie, just kept icing the puck out of their own end.  Then with three minutes left the pace picked up a bit.   The Blue Huskies were able to get a lot of traffic in front of Dawson to screen him, and found the net on a nice hard shot.
Now it was desperation time for the Red team.  Pulling the goalie with 1:43 left, the extra attacker on the ice giving them an edge, they kept the play deep in the opponents end.  With pressure on them, the Blue team were called for hooking.  With two extra attackers now, the Red Huskies pressed hard and finally Alex B. got the tying goal with an assist from Mason.  A few more opportunities in the dying seconds of the game, but it finished as a 2-2 tie. Good game boys and a good job in net by Dawson.
On Sunday, they game was more wide open with more scoring, but the boys once again fell behind early.  Their worst period was the first as the Rangers were pressing them hard and seemed to always be first to the puck. Kitchener scored first but the Huskies countered a couple of minutes later as Carson picked up the puck and skated hard to the net, he was hooked all the way and actually drew the penalty but as he crashed the net the puck squeaked by the goalie to tie the game.  Kitchener scored the next two goals to take the lead 3-1 into the second period.  The Huskies rallied and picked up their game midway through the second period. They got one back on a nice scoring combination by Chris L.  over to Matthew M. who was open in front of the Rangers net.  Then early in the third period the boys tied it up on a similar play when Brayden and Noah combined for a goal.  And then Noah got his second to put the team ahead on a power play.  But seconds later after the face off, the puck came deep into the Huskies end.  They Huskies weren't able to clear as a Ranger recovered the puck. The centering pass went over to his wide open defence man who had a clear shot on the net.  That goal tied it at 4-4, and that's where the game ended.  But we'll take the tie. A good game for the team and a good job in net for Matteo.
Unfortunately, David T. had to sit this one out with a sore hand from an injury he received at home.  It turns out that he had a fractured bone in his hand and will be out for up to 4 weeks.  We'll miss him on D and let's hope that we are still advancing through the playoffs when he returns.  Fortunately, Hayden is feeling better and will be back in the lineup to shore up the defence.
