The Big Red Machine traveled up the road to Kitchener this
past weekend to face the Jr Rangers (RED) in a battle of undefeated. The winner of this game would keep their
record unblemished, where as the loser would have to take it on the chin and
live to fight another day.
The game started off with some energy but it was the Rangers who struck 1st. It wasn’t much longer before the Huskies answered with a nice goal from Matthew M. who put it top shelf where Mommy keeps the good candy for herself. The Rangers then potted their 2nd goal of the game and this put the Huskies behind the eight ball. The question this evening was would they have the energy to fight back, in this all important early season battle? With their candy filled tummies from the night before it was time for a "trick or treat". The Red Machine dug deep into their bowl of candies. However, it was the Rangers who managed to score a 3rd goal to make it 3-1. Finally, perseverance paid off and the Huskies found a crack in the Ranger armor when Matthew M. scored his second goal of the game.
The score remained 3-2 with under 3 minutes remaining in the game. The Rangers were forced into taking a couple of consecutive penalties which left the Huskies with a two man advantage. Add to that, pulling Matteo B (G) and the opportunity to tie the game was handed to them on a silver platter.
Unfortunately, try as they may, the Mighty Red Machine ran out of sugar rush and couldn’t put one past the Ranger goalie. The score ended 3-2. The Huskies didn’t leave Kitchener with a point but they did leave with a candy apple smile :-)
