Huskies' Season Comes to an End ...
As Hamilton cut
through the morning fog
to face the Chatham Cyclones in a likely fifth and series-deciding game in distant Ridgetown, celebration-driven Huskies’ parents gathered around a pre-game parking-lot BBQ in recognition of good things to come. Whether it was the warmer weather, the promise of sunshine, or the silent acknowledgement of a memorable season, there were smiles all around in preparation for season’s end, regardless of the outcome.
Unfortunately, despite a noble effort, the Huskies’ deficiencies on Consolation Championship Day were insurmountable as they were defeated by short-handedness, by time, and ultimately by the opposition. The score, for the losing team, is not always reflective of the heart and effort that goes behind the execution. And while lopsided officiating, unusual clumsiness, or even hard luck can often be suspect, at the end of the day, odds are that the better team typically wins, especially over an extended series-type matchup. Nonetheless, it goes without saying that any loss is a tough loss.
And without knowing the opponents’ story, we know ours... At times it felt like a long road, at others like a road less travelled, but it was ALWAYS filled with hope and driven by passion. The feeling of being underdogs was at times empowering, occasionally rewarding. The appreciation for the boys’ overall, tireless commitment to become better hockey players is not lessened by the abbreviated season from scoreboard shortfalls. There is pride in how far they have come, and faith in how far they can yet still go…
“Not in actual achievement does the soul show its divine grandeur, but in the endurance that it takes to persevere through the toughest of challenges. Therein lies the ultimate in accomplishment.”
Thank you for a memorable season.
