The little red engine that could.....
This weekend the Huskies Novice Red team entered our second tournament of the year full of enthusiasm, and a desire to compete. Our first game the boys played hard and for the most part, kept the play in the other teams end. A few costly mistakes resulted in a tie. Game 2 was approached with much more focus and determination, resulting in our first win of the season and a jubilant group of boys.
Then things changed......a taste of victory inspired them as their focus led to a route of their next opponent, propelling them to the semis where they jumped out to an early lead against a tough opponent. After their opponent tied the game late in the second, the boys regrouped, scored twice, and kept their foot on the gas for a victory and chance to be champions.
That chance was not something they were going to let slip away. They scored first and when the Bulldogs started to build a little momentum, they answered right back taking a 3-1 lead mid way through the third and onto our first tournament championship. There was no shortage of heroics by a lot of our players: goalies played phenomenal, players would switch roles, block shots and Matteo led the entire tournament in scoring.
They did not care about the tough run we recently had leading up this weekend, but rather just continued to work hard and focus on something they wanted. In doing so they went undefeated and became the first Novice Huskie team to win a tournament this year. They believed in themselves and in their teammates, which made them winners before the tournament had even started. The little red engine that could....just did!
Proud of them all!
