Progressing....
Since mid-August the boys has been working hard both on and
off the ice. With numerous practices, goalie school, shooting clinics and ball
hockey, under their belts, they kicked off the season with a couple of
exhibition games and then their season opener.
As a coach we needed to see how this team would stack up against more experienced teams and although the results were not in our favor, this young team showed it has character. Heading into our first tournament of the year a lot of questions still loomed. Although a tournament championship is always desired, our goals were simple: Take individuals and make them a team. While playing against tough opponents for two days, the transition was easy to see. They fought their way back in two games and gave the tournament champs one of their toughest opponents of the weekend. To say they competed is a gross understatement. To others we left without a trophy. To the boys and their families, we left with a new identity, new friendships, new memories and most importantly we left as a team. I would say we accomplished our goal!
