The Bantam Hamilton AA Huskies began the season with a great deal of promise. The early season was spent building chemistry and camaraderie. The team saw tournament success early making it to the semifinal of the Richmond Hill tournament and the final of the Mississauga tournament.
The team continued to work hard through the league schedule coming away with some big wins but some unfortunate luck led to some key upsets. At the split, the boys had a 7 – 7 - 2 record and were in a three way tie for last spot in the AA loop. Through a tie breaker the team was relegated to the A group.
Once the A loop schedule began, the team's chemistry began coming together and ourHuskies caught fire going 23 games without a defeat. During that time the team won the prestigious Vic Teal tournament in St. Catharines and advanced to the semifinal of the Toronto Penguins tourney when the boys suffered their first loss in almost two months to a strong Cheektowaga
team that is very highly ranked in the US. In this tournament our Huskies beat
the second ranked London Knights on the way to the semis. The loss to
Cheektowaga seemed to be the catalyst the team needed to succeed as it would be
the last loss our boys would see.
The Huskies continued to power through league
play finishing first overall with a record of 12-2-2 in the A division and
19-9-4 overall. In the first round the team rolled over Oakridge taking the
series in three straight. Next up was Waterloo where the series was wrapped up
in four games. In the final, our Huskies faced a tough Woodstock Navy Vets
team. The boys raised their game another notch handily downing Woodstock in a
four game sweep.
The Alliance Bristol Championship advances our Huskies to the OHF provincial Championship in Niagara Falls on April 12 -14.
