Good morning all, I’m excited to announce our community food drive, partnering with the Eva Rothwell centre in North Hamilton for the third year in a row.
Together as a team, we have the ability to make a real difference in the people‘s lives who truly need it. It is such a rewarding experience for the players, as they get to see the impact they can make together as a group.
The Eva Rothwell centre strives to have a meaningful impact on the families that live in ward 3. Their team is committed to helping the local community every day. Kim Jones, a mom from our team two years ago, is friends with the director of Eva Rothwell, Sam Campanella. She has been kind enough to connect us with Sam once again.
In the past two years, we have partnered up with another team to try to make the biggest impact that we can. This year I’m happy to announce that the U 12 BB team will be joining us in our efforts. On top of that, the Huskies organization has agreed to help us in bringing in as many donations as we can. They have allowed us to put food donation bins at both chedoke and Parkdale Arena’s and they will be advertising our food drive on the Huskies, main page and social media pages.
We’re not asking you to dig deep in your pocket if you don’t have the ability to do so. (If you do, by all means go for it!)
More so, we want to get the message out as wide as possible. To friends, family, neighbours, teachers and friends at school, any fans that come to our games. Anywhere that the boys can bring in a small donation.
We will be running this until Sunday, December 14th. At that time, both teams will bring all the donations down to Eva Rothwell and the boys will work together to stock the shelves of the community pantry. A rewarding and eye opening experience.
I also put it out there to coach Mike from the BB team that we have a little competition between the teams to see who can bring in more items. The prize is still tbd, but possibly a shared practice where the winning team can pick some bag skating drills for the other team or maybe the losing teams coaches have to skate some lines! Just something fun to motivate the boys a little.
Essentially, our goal is to try to help break the cycle of poverty in our city, which truly does exist. Our boys have not likely (hopefully) had to deal with that in their lives.
As rep hockey players they are ambassadors to the community and have the ability to make a difference together!
