Two former Hamilton Huskies U18 players currently playing Tier 2 Junior hockey will be competing at the
2023 CENTENNIAL CUP in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, May 11-21.
Former teammates will now be rivals as Evan Grigor who is with the Timmins Rock (NOJHL Champs) and Lucas Staresinic who is with Ottawa Jr Sens (CCHL Champs) get ready to battle for the national championship.
The hardest trophy to win in Canadian hockey?
For the last 51 years, Junior A teams have faced off for the Centennial Cup, but only after claiming league titles first. Nine CJHL champions and a host team make up the field, and the 31 different championship teams have come from seven provinces.
The Road to the Centennial Cup includes 117 teams in nine leagues – from Canmore, Alta., to Flin Flon, Man., to Campbellton, N.B. and so much more in between. This year, the host Portage Terriers will welcome the champions of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec (LHJAAAQ) and Maritime Hockey League (MHL).
