IAN D. DOUGLAS REMEMBERED
It is with deep sorrow that the Hamilton Huskies announce the passing of Ian Douglas.
“Ian was an incredible volunteer in his position as Head Trainer for the Hamilton Huskies, but more importantly he was an incredible person who was committed, always willing to help anyone in need and a joy to be around. Ian will be greatly missed.”
Mike Spadafora
As well as his duties as Head Trainer Ian spent many years working with Chris Jedrzejewicz as Team Trainer and prior to that with a number of teams in the former HUB League.
When the HUB League merged with the Hamilton Huskies Ian sent Chris an email looking to help out as a team trainer. The following excerpt from that email says a lot about the person Ian was.
"My aspiration is to teach and motivate our players to successfully work together with one another as a team and show respect to each other, other teams, officials and coaching staff. I want to see each player grow to their maximum potential and learn to make good decisions both on and off the ice. I also want to ensure a safe environment is maintained during the game. Safety of the players is my first priority.”
Ian was a member of the Canadian Medical Corps, and a paramedic supervisor in Hamilton for thirty four years. But his passion was hockey. He brought all his experience to the rink every game, practice, and tournament. Nothing could have ever stopped him from being there for the players.
"I have never experienced someone with that much dedication. He was an inspiration to the players and staff. His charm and witty personality brought a smile to everyone around. He will truly be missed but will never be forgotten" Chris Jedrzejewicz
Our prayers and deepest condolences are extended to Ian’s family and friends.
Thank You Ian.
