U-18 AAA Coaching Announcement for the 2022/23 Season

The Hamilton Huskies are very excited to announce that Head Coach
John Barrettwill be returning to lead the Huskies U-18 AAA team for the 2022/23 season along with returning Assistant Coaches Chad Holloway and Tanner Brennecke.

After a 5-year absence from the Alliance U-18 AAA league, Head Coach
John Barrett and his staff have successfully led the Huskies U-18 AAA team to an impressive 17-12-2 over-all record up to the Christmas break.  Before guiding the U-18 AAA Huskies Team this season Coach Barrett had coached at the Junior level for 7 years.   Coach Barrett was the Head Coach of the Junior B Hamilton Kilty B’s of the GOJHL.  Barrett mentored under OHL Guelph Storm Assistant Coach Ken Peroff with the Kilty B’s for the 2 seasons where he served as the Associate Head Coach.  Before joining the Kilty B’s, John also mentored under present Pittsburgh Penguins affiliate Wheeling Nailers Assistant Coach Ryan Kuwabara with the Junior B Ancaster Avalanche.  Coach Barrett began his Junior coaching career with the Junior C Paris Mounties for 3 seasons.  John holds a degree in Sports Administration from Laurentian University where he interned with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves and with Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO) in Thunder Bay.  Coach Barrett has also gained valuable experience working for both the Hamilton Tiger Cats and with MLSE.  He has utilized this experience in his ability to effectively and successfully coach the teams he has been involved with.

Assistant coach Chad Holloway has a number of years of coaching experience coaching minor hockey in Burlington with the Eagles and Tier 2 Junior A in Collingwood.  Coach Holloway played Tier 2 Junior A Hockey in Manitoba with the St. Boniface Saints before playing at the University of Manitoba in the CIS.  Chad played  professionally for 6 seasons with stops in Saginaw, Dayton, Utica, Huntington and overseas in Finland before finishing up playing 3 seasons with the Senior A Dundas Real McCoys.

Fellow Assistant Tanner Brennecke is a proud Hamilton Huskies Alumnus who went on to play a number of seasons of Junior hockey.  Tanner began his Junior career playing for the Hagersville Hawks where he was awarded the Best Defenseman in the PJCL League.  He then went on to play for Coach Barrett with both the Ancaster Avalanche and the Hamilton Kilty B’s where he was the Captain and a point per game D-man.  Tanner finished his playing career with the provincial Junior B powerhouse Caledonia Corvairs.   Coach Brennecke is a well-rounded athlete as the former Captain of the Junior B Hamilton Bengals lacrosse team.

Looking forward to the continued successful culture that Coach Barrett and his incredible staff have established with the Huskies U-18 AAA Team!
