Coaches Professional Development Seminar
The Hamilton Huskies are again providing a Professional Development opportunity for their coaches featuring an OHL Head Coach as the guest speaker.
Hamilton Huskies Alumni and recently appointed Head Coach of the Kitchener Rangers, Troy Smith, will be visiting his home town to address the coaching ranks of the organization in which he played his minor hockey.

Troy graduated from the Huskies to play one season with the Hamilton Kilty B's. At the end of his season with the Kilty B's he was drafted by the OHL Detroit Jr. Red Wings (Whalers) in the 4th Round, 67th Overall. Other notable players taken in the same OHL draft were Joe Thornton 1st Rd 2nd Overall, Boyd Devereaux 1st Rd 5th Overall and Hamilton Huskies Alumni Adam Mair 1st Rd 7th Overall.

Troy went on to play four years in the OHL as a member of the Detroit/Plymouth Whalers franchise under Peter DeBoer and Steve Spott. Following his junior career, Troy played five years at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where he captured a National Championship during the 2003-04 season. Troy then went on to play two years as a professional in the ECHL, UHL and in Europe.

Troy joined the Kitchener Rangers as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development in 2006 where he again worked with and mentored under Head Coach Peter DeBoer and most recently Head Coach Steve Spott. His responsibilities have included overseeing the Rangers defenseman and team Penalty Kill; his daily duties also included assisting with team practices, scouting and player development.  In his time with the Rangers, Troy has also overseen the Host Family program, player / team travel and immigration.

In 2007-08 he was an Assistant Coach on the Rangers OHL Championship team. The team won the Hamilton Spectator Trophy, were Memorial Cup Finalists and set a franchise record with 53 regular season wins.

In 2009, Troy represented Team Canada at the IIHF Under-18 Championship in Fargo, ND, as Video Coach.  From 2009 to 2013, Troy was also part of the coaching staff for Team Ontario at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.  In his two years as the Head Coach and three years as an Assistant, the U17 team won gold twice and silver & bronze once.

As noted Troy is now the Head Coach of the Kitchener Rangers and we are pleased and excited to have Troy return to his roots and share some of his experiences and knowledge of the game with our Hamilton Huskies Coaches.
