The Hamilton Huskies are very
excited to profile the coaching staff of the U-18 (2004/05) AAA team
for the 2021-22 season. The members of this staff include returning Head
Coach John Barrett along with returning Assistant Coach Chad Holloway
and newly appointed Assistant and Huskies Alumnus Tanner Brennecke.
Head Coach John Barrett before
guiding the U-18 AAA Huskies Team this past season had coached at the Junior
level for the past 7 years.
Prior to this past season Coach Barrett was the Head Coach of the Junior B Hamilton Kilty B’s of the GOJHL. Barrett mentored under present OHL Guelph Storm Assistant Coach Ken Peroff with the Kilty B’s for the 2 previous seasons where he served as the Associate Head Coach. Before joining the Kilty B’s, John also mentored under present Flint Firebirds Associate Head Coach Ryan Kuwabara with the Junior B Ancaster Avalanche. Coach Barrett began his Junior coaching career with the Junior C Paris Mounties for 3 seasons. During his stellar AAA Minor Hockey career he won 2 OMHA titles and played his Junior hockey in Paris and St. George respectively. John then went on to earn a degree in Sports Administration at Laurentian University where he interned with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves and with Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO) in Thunder Bay. Coach Barrett has also gained valuable experience working for both the Hamilton Tiger Cats and with MLSE. He has utilized this experience in his ability to effectively and successfully coach the teams he has been involved with.
Assistant coach Chad Holloway has a number of years of coaching experience coaching minor hockey in Burlington with the Eagles and Tier 2 Junior A in Collingwood. Coach Holloway played Tier 2 Junior A Hockey in Manitoba with the St. Boniface Saints before playing at the University of Manitoba in the CIS. Chad played professionally for 6 seasons with stops in Saginaw, Dayton, Utica, Huntington and overseas in Finland before finishing up playing 3 seasons with the Senior A Dundas Real McCoys.
Fellow Assistant Tanner Brennecke is a former Hamilton Huskies Alumnus who went on to play on a number of seasons of Junior hockey. Tanner began his Junior career playing for the Hagersville Hawks where he was awarded the Best Defenseman in the PJCL League. He then went on to play for Coach Barrett with both the Ancaster Avalanche and the Hamilton Kilty B’s where he was the Captain and point per game D-man. Tanner finished his playing career with the provincial Junior B powerhouse Caledonia Corvairs. Coach Brennecke is a well-rounded athlete as the former Captain of Junior B Lacrosse player with the Hamilton Bengals.
