Hamilton, ON - The HMHC and Dave Andreychuk Foundation have been working for a number of years with “Skate the Dream” a program run out of long forgotten Eastwood arena. Last year over 200 children accessed this program which is geared to families in need. Basic hockey gear, largely through the support of the Dave Andreychuk Foundation is provided at no charge so that children can learn to skate and enjoy the game of hockey.
With the support of Huskies 14 MD Minor Midget White team last year, players were taught to skate and then, if their skill level continued to improve progressed to playing a 3 on 3 format. These players were then given the opportunity to move into House League play across the city.
This year, the same group of Huskies coaches and their 15 MD Minor Midget White team led by Head Coach Warren DeForest, have committed to providing support. Also joining in is the newly formed McMaster Women’s Hockey team!
This program shows the support that hockey players continue to give to their community, helping those in need and providing an opportunity for many who would never be able to enjoy the game to do so.
