Hamilton Huskies Bantam AA team bring home another Tournament Championship!
This past weekend found our Hamilton Huskies Bantam AA team competing in the Pickering Bring your AA game tournament. The team took to the ice Friday morning in a match up against the Orangeville Flyers. Both teams came out strong and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Friday evening the Huskies met the Cumberland Jr. Grads and our boys were fired up. We pulled off a 4-0 win and ended the day on a high note. Heading into Saturday, the first match up was against the hometown Pickering Panthers. Again the Huskies meant business and came away with a 5-1 win. On Saturday night, the boys faced the Whitby Wildcats. The Wildcats put up a good fight and the Huskies had to work hard to come away with the 2-1 win. Finishing 1st after round robin play, the boys faced off against the Northumberland Nighthawks for the Semi Final game. The Huskies continued their tough play and great scoring to win this one 5-2 and head to the final for the second time this season.
The championship game, pitted our Huskies against the Cumberland Jr. Grads once again. Both teams came out strong, showing they really wanted the win. After 3 periods of play the game remained scoreless, forcing the teams to OT. The first 5 minutes of 4 on 4, resulted in no score, but with the Jr. Grads taking a penalty to put them at a disadvantage for the next round. The 4 on 3 competition and the 2 on 2 round, both resulted in neither team finding the net. The players, coaches and fans were all on the edge of their seat and hoping not to head into a shootout as Lukas Taylor took to the ice for the one on one match up. Taylor fended off the Cumberland player and won the puck. He headed towards their goalie and missed his first shot with just enough time to recover the puck and beat the goalie with seconds left on the clock. Taylor’s teammates and coaches wasted no time heading to the ice to celebrate their second tournament championship of the season.
A great display of team play was shown by all throughout the weekend. Goals were spread out between forwards, and D men, and with only 5 goals against in 6 games, our goalies did us proud. Way to Go Huskies!
