Alliance Champions
The Major Atom Red - MD are proud to announce we are the ALLIANCE TIER 2 CHAMPIONS for the 2015-16 season.  The team went into St. Catherines this weekend following their tier 2 east/central division championship.  The huskies faced their nemesis, Waterloo in the opening game on Friday.  With strong D and excellent goaltending the huskies would prevail 2-1.  Ethan fed the puck up the middle as noah stepped out of the box to send him on a breakaway.  Noah would deke the goalie and roof it over the goalies blocker to take a 1-0 led.

With a player in the box...Quinn would press the wolves in their own end steal the puck and dangle around two wolves.  Quinn drove the net....bar down..a beautiful SH goal to solidify the victory.
The second game saw a back and forth battle between the Oakridge Aeros.  The huskies would end up drawing to a 1-1 tie.  A back and forth battle between the two teams saw the Aeros take the lead early in the first.  The huskies battled back with multiple chances hitting posts and crossbars.  The kids would keep pressing the Aeros and eventually tie the game with another SH goal by Noah McNicol on a breakaway.
The third game of our round robin saw the huskies up against the North London Nationals.  The coaching staff knew this game was important to stay on top and push for the bye to the finals.  In the early stages of the game the nationals peppered Alex VanRaay but he was in the "zone" making multiple glove and blocker saves.  With Alex's saves the team would then forecheck relentlessly potting a goal by Ben Puskas to take the lead.  The Nationals would tie it up late in the second.  In the third period the team would get into some penalty trouble...late in the third down 5 against 3...Ben Puskas would provide one of the best highlights of the year.  Ben Puskas would beat their D to the puck on a dump in, take the puck around the net, come out in front and roof it shortside.  It was sheer determination and will that led to that goal to take the lead (that's why he wears the C).  With the victory the huskies would enter Saturday in first place and get that wanted bye to the finals.
Sundays matchup had the Huskies vs the Aeros in the Alliance championship.  The kids and staff were focused, relaxed and confident they could win the game.  The huskies came out flying pinning the Aeros back in their own end with aggressinve D holding the line and eliminating their outlet passes, the ice was tilted in our favour.  The Aeros goalie would make some great saves to keep it tied going into the second period.  The huskies would open the scoring with a beautiful pass from Benny to Quinn in front with the easy one timer to take the lead.   The huskies would the open the flood gates in the third period with goals from each line contributing to the victory and the Alliance Championship.  The D played a solid game eliminating all chances, even helping stop a few mad scrambles late in the game.  Aiden Beaudoin made 5 key stops late in the third with 2 men down to preserve the shutout. Overall, a great tournament for the team bringing home the Championship and more importantly the season was a huge success both on and off the ice....thanks to the coaching staff, and parents for a terrific season I enjoyed every minute of it!!!
Good luck to all of those trying out for AAA and AA...but I wish and prefer you stay in MD with me!!!!
