With a number of new players across all positions, the
coaches were eager to see who would fit best together, and after a number of
practices and skills sessions, the players were eager to simply play a game.
Throughout the last month or so, players worked hard on individual technical skills as well as team positioning. A large majority of the drills and positional concepts were and will continue to be new to these players however they all listened and put forth their best effort to learn and execute. Players gelled instantly, making new friendships and reinforcing existing ones.
Receiving their Jerseys and team wear was like Christmas for the team, further adding to the anticipation towards playing an actual game. Heading into our first ever game (exhibition) as Huskie Blue, the team showed a never quit attitude, exceptional team play and speed. Game 2 again highlighted the teams speed, unselfishness, key goaltending, strong defensive play and impressive stickhandling. Game 3 the coaches tried a variation of lineups, moving players from defense to forward and so on, in an effort to give players the opportunity to learn other positions, and to play with different teammates. Although the score was not in our favor, what was taken away from the game was more important. Coaches learned of valuable options and the players learned a valuable lesson in positioning and readiness.
Game 1 of the regular season is a few days away and Huskie Blue will be ready!
