2015-2016 Tryout Information

The cost to tryout for a Hamilton Huskies AAA/AA/A team, Minor Atom through Minor Midget, is $110.00 cash (no cheques) and is payable at the first tryout attended.

The cost to tryout for a Hamilton Huskies MD team, Minor Novice through Minor Midget, is $60.00 cash (no cheques) and is payable at the first tryout attended.

This is a flat rate for all tryouts (no pro-rated fees).
There will be six (6) 1-hour tryouts for the AAA teams and three (3) 1-hour tryouts for the AA/A - MD teams  (at the Bantam and Minor Midget levels, some tryouts may be 1-1/2 hours long).

The player is guaranteed two (2) tryouts at the AAA level starting with the 1st tryout of each age group.

All AAA - AA/A tryouts take place at Chedoke Twin Pad Arena, 91 Chedmac Drive, Hamilton.
Please see Tryout Schedule for MD tryout locations.

Amalgamation of the 6 municipalities of the Region of Hamilton-Wentworth into the “New” City of Hamilton has not changed the “hockey” boundaries of its residents. The existing OHF residency boundaries are still in effect.

Who may tryout?

  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the “former” City of Hamilton (Wards 1-8).
  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the “former” City of Stoney Creek, Township of Glanbrook, Town of Ancaster, Town of Dundas and Town of Flamborough (Wards 9-15) may tryout for the Hamilton Huskies at the AAA level only with an F1 waiver from their designated AAA center, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs.
  • Note: Residents of these former cities/towns will not be allowed on the ice without an F1 waiver—the “New” amalgamated City of Hamilton’s boundaries do not apply to hockey tryouts.
  • Hamilton Huskies AAA teams may sign players who try out with a valid F1 waiver and who also reside within the boundaries of the “New” City of Hamilton
  • Minor Atom AAA tryouts are open only to those born in 2006.  Players born in 2007 or later will not be permitted on the ice to "tryout" nor will they be permitted on the ice "for a skate".  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Effective for the 2015-2016 season, the Hamilton Huskies will not be accepting import players, those who reside outside the amalgamated City of Hamilton, to try out at the 9 and 10 year old AAA age groups. Import players who have a valid OHF waiver will be allowed to try out at the Minor Peewee, Peewee, Minor Bantam, Bantam and Minor Midget levels only. The exception to this policy will apply to all current imports presently playing with the Hamilton Huskies. Those players will be grandfathered and may continue to try out as long as they have a valid OHF waiver from their home centre and play continuously with a Hamilton Huskies team.

F1 Waivers

An F1 Waiver from the Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club will be issued in accordance with Ontario Hockey Federation regulation (AAA Waivers) E31-E45 and the Alliance Hockey policy for F1 Waiver Forms, page 171 of the Alliance Hockey 2014-2015 Handbook.

Players who reside within the boundaries of the “former” City of Hamilton (Wards 1-8) must first register and participate in the AAA tryouts of the Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club. Players who are released during the tryouts are entitled to receive an F1 Waiver.   No players will be issued an F1 Waiver prior to the April 15th tryout (2nd AAA tryout).    The process for obtaining an F1 Waiver, after being released, will be announced on the Hamilton Huskies website prior to tryouts.

Players who leave the Hamilton Huskies on an F1 Waiver must return to the Hamilton Huskies in their "Minor" year.

 Who may tryout?

  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the “former” City of Hamilton (Wards 1-8).

For the 2015-2016 season, the Hamilton Huskies MD teams will be operating more than one team (2, 3, 4 or 5) at all age divisions.  The teams will be designated as Team Red, Team White, etc.  A player chooses where he wants to go for tryout #1.    A player cannot try out for more than one team on the first night of tryouts.

Any Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, Flamborough or Glanbrook residents who tried out on an F1 waiver for a Hamilton Huskies AAA team and did not make the AAA team must return to their home center to play AA or A hockey.

For the upcoming 2015-16 season - players born in 2002

To comply with ALLIANCE Hockey Policy all players entering their Minor Bantam year, the first year where Body Checking is allowed, must attend an Introduction to Body Checking Clinic prior to going on the ice for  AAA / AA / MD tryouts.

Current AAA / AA / MD Major Peewee (2002) teams have attended this clinic earlier in the season to allow them to AP with a Minor Bantam team. If you did not attend this clinic with your Major Peewee team you must attend the clinic below prior to tryouts or you will not be allowed on the ice.

Current House League players who are planning to attend AAA / AA / MD tryouts must attend this clinic prior to tryouts or they will not be allowed on the ice. You must pre-register for this clinic.

Please note there will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy for players who live within ALLIANCE HOCKEY territory and are thus governed by their policies. If a player does not attend an Introduction to Body Checking Clinic they will not be allowed on the ice for tryouts.
