2017-2018 Tryout Info

All players registering for the 2017-2018 Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club AAA - AA /A -  MD tryouts must pre-register online through the Hamilton Huskies website by April 2nd, 2017. The one-time cost to try out for Hamilton Huskies AAA / AA / MD teams (Minor Atom through Minor Midget) is $125.00 cash. This is a flat rate for all tryouts, no pro-rated fees, all fees are non-refundable.

2017-18 Tryout Online Pre-Registration Form

All tryout fees (cash only) will be paid at the Pre-Tryout registration dates on Tuesday, April 4th and Thursday, April 6th at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Time 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

 
6:00 pm - 2008/2007 birth year
7:00 pm - 2006/2005 birth year
8:00 pm - 2004/2003/2002 years

At this time your tryout registration will be confirmed, you will be issued a tryout jersey and you will receive your Tryout Identification Code for AAA tryouts. Tryout Identification Codes for AA/A and MD will be issued at their respective first tryout.

All AAA / AA  tryouts take place at Chedoke Twin Pad Arena, 91 Chedmac Drive, Hamilton. 

Minor Novice and Major Novice MD players are required to pre-register for tryouts however they will not need to attend the Pre-Registration evenings at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arean. The tryout fee for Novice ages will be $10.00 per skate.

AAA TRYOUTS:

There will be a minimum five (5) on ice evaluations for AAA teams. The Hamilton Huskies reserve the right to add additional on ice evaluations where / when necessary.

Each player attending AAA tryouts is guaranteed a minimum of two (2) on-ice evaluations after which the player may be released at the discretion of the head coach.

 * First tryout for goalies will be the goalie evaluation tryout on April 11th, 2017 *

NOTE: Players joining the tryout after the first tryout date are guaranteed one (1) on ice evaluation at the AAA level.

It is Mandatory that all returning AAA and AA/A players try out for their AAA level team to be eligible for the AA/A tryouts. All exceptions to the rule are to be vetted and approved by the Head Coach in consultation with Hamilton Huskies GM. Although not mandatory the Hamilton Huskies welcome and encourage all returning MD players to tryout at the AAA level.

It is Mandatory that all returning eligible Novice MD players try out for the Minor Atom AAA team. All exceptions to the rule are to be vetted and approved by the Head Coach in consultation with Hamilton Huskies GM.

All first-time Hamilton Huskies registrants must try out for the AAA team in their respective age group to be eligible for the AA/A and MD tryouts.

Who may tryout for AAA?

  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the City of Hamilton Ward’s 1 thru 8.
  • All returning players that played for the Hamilton Huskies under a 2016-2017 OHF AAA Hockey Waiver in their Minor year.
  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the City of Hamilton Ward’s 9 thru 15 may try out for the Hamilton Huskies at the AAA level only with an OHF AAA Hockey waiver from their designated AAA center (Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs).
  • Players who reside outside of the City of Hamilton who have a valid OHF AAA Hockey Waiver will be allowed to try out at all Age levels. The Head Coach in consultation with the GM of the Hamilton Huskies will determine the number of non-City of Hamilton resident players for every age group.

OHF AAA Hockey Waivers:

OHF AAA Hockey Waivers from the Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club will be issued in accordance with Ontario Hockey Federation and Alliance Hockey regulations.

The Hamilton Huskies have a No Release Policy at the AAA level. However, there are certain conditions that do apply for granting OHF AAA Hockey Waivers provided the player registers for the Hamilton Huskies tryouts:

a) A player must attend scheduled tryouts, be released from the team by the Head Coach, and the GM of the Hamilton Huskies will approve the release and issuance of the OHF AAA Hockey Waiver

 OR

b) At the sole discretion of GM of the Hamilton Huskies (in consultation with the Head Coach and Huskies Executive) deems the request for release as VALID and EXCEPTIONAL circumstance?

Players who reside within the boundaries of Wards 1 thru 8 must first register and participate in the AAA tryouts of the Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club. Players who are released during the tryouts are entitled to receive an OHF AAA Hockey Waiver provided they have met all the conditions of the OHF AAA Hockey Waiver regulations. 

No player will be issued an OHF AAA Hockey Waiver prior to the 2nd AAA tryout. Players offered a position on a Hamilton Huskies AAA team will not be issued an OHF AAA Hockey Waiver. Furthermore, once a player signs an “Intent to Play” form with the Hamilton Huskies they will not be eligible for or granted an OHF AAA Hockey Waiver from the Hamilton Huskies.

The process for obtaining an OHF AAA Hockey Waiver after being released will be announced on the Hamilton Huskies website just prior to tryouts.

 

AA/A / MD TRYOUTS - NEW CODES WILL BE ISSUED FOR AA TRYOUTS

It is Mandatory that all returning AA/A - MD players tryout for the AA/A team in their age group to be eligible for the MD tryouts. All resident eligible players released from AAA and new registrants are required to try out for the AA/A team in their age group to be eligible for the MD tryouts. All exceptions to the rule are to be vetted and approved by the Head Coach in consultation with Hamilton Huskies GM.

There will be three (3) tryouts for the AA/A and two (2) MD tryouts for each group. The Hamilton Huskies reserve the right to add additional tryouts where / when necessary.

Each player attending AA/A tryouts is guaranteed a minimum of two (2) on-ice evaluations after which he may be released at the discretion of the head coach.

Note: Players joining the tryouts after the first AA/A tryout are only guaranteed (1) one skate at the AA/A level.

Each player attending MD tryouts is guaranteed a minimum of one (1) on-ice evaluation after which he may be released at the discretion of the head coach

Who may tryout?

Players who reside within the boundaries of the City of Hamilton Ward’s 1 thru 8. 

Who may not tryout?

  • Players who reside within the boundaries of the City of Hamilton Ward’s 9 thru 15.
  • Any players who tried out at the AAA level on an OHF AAA Waiver and were released. These players must return to their home centre.


For the 2017-2018 season, the Hamilton Huskies MD teams will be operating more than one team (where numbers permit) at all age divisions.  The teams will be designated as Team Red, Team White, etc.  A player chooses where he wants to go for tryout #1.   

A player who is unsigned by the team who has the first scheduled tryout is welcome to attend any tryout they choose following that initial tryout.


SPECIAL NOTICE FOR PLAYERS TRYING OUT FOR MINOR BANTAM AAA / AA
For the upcoming 2017-18 season - players born in 2004

To comply with ALLIANCE Hockey Policy all players entering their Minor Bantam year at AAA or AA/A, the first year where Body Checking is allowed, must attend an Introduction to Body Checking Clinic prior to going on the ice for a competitive level team's tryouts. To accommodate this, clinics will be scheduled prior to tryouts.

Current House League players who are planning to attend Minor Bantam AAA / AA tryouts must pre-register for one of the early clinics by contacting the designated person.

Current House League players who are planning to attend Minor Midget or Major Midget MD tryouts must pre-register for one of the early clinics by contacting the designated person.


Please note there will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy for players who live within ALLIANCE HOCKEY territory and are thus governed by their policies. If a player does not attend an Introduction to Body Checking Clinic they will not be allowed on the ice for tryouts.

Introduction to Body Checking Clinic for House League Players or any AAA/AA players who did not attend their scheduled clinic earlier in the season.
