Richard Bell Memorial Champions
What a great way to end the year with a hard fought and decisive victory in capturing the Championship of the Richard Bell Memorial tournament in Oakville. The boys worked hard all weekend taken on some of the tough competition from the Tri-counties in the OMHA.
The boys started strong on Sunday morning taking on the Brampton 45's at River Oaks. The Huskies Red dominated play and came away with a hard fought 2-0 win! Sunday Night was a wide open affair against our Orangeville Championship opponent in the Flamborough Sabres and the Huskies Red showed they could light up the night with a wild 10-4 victory!
Monday was moving day in the tournament as the boys came out against Oakville and used all the faucets of the game and came out victorious with a 3-2 win against the host Oakville Rangers. The Round Robin ended with the Top OMHA Tri-Counties team the Stoney Creek Warriors taking on our Huskies team. A strong defensive battle prevailed and in the end the Warriors got by the Huskies with a hard 3-1 win.
The top 2 teams met in the Final and we had a return date set with the Warriors once more. The Impressive Warriors came in sporting a Regular season record of 24-0-2 and were looking to keep the Warrior season rolling! What they didn't expect was a total commitment of a team game that the Huskies Red played and the Huskies took the game to the Warriors. Opportunities presented themselves and the boys built an early 2-0 lead after one and kept the pressure coming as the Huskies went into the 2nd Intermission up 3-1. The 3 rd period was an outstanding display of a strong team defense and were able to Weather the Fury of the Warriors as they attempted to show that first place characteristic! In the End, the Huskies showed that they were the deserving Champion of the Minor Bantam AE Division!
