Blue But Very GOLDEN
The Major Atom MD REDs went into the Bradford Blue and Gold Classic this weekend and come away with the Gold.
The team entered their first tournament of the year with some nerves and uncertainty. But after the first day, the boys came away with a 2 - 0 win over Uxbridge POG: Quinn MacDougall and Ezra Oucharek.
Friday afternoon the boys came out flying taking on Ajax in game 1 winning 3 - 1 against a tough opponent and a spectacular goalie. The boys never gave up and ended up on the winning side POG: Desmond McManus. On Saturday the boys faced the Kanata Blazers and winning 5 -1 with a strong defensive game from both the forwards and defense POG: Aiden Beaudin, timely saves kept them from getting into the game. The team faced the Blazers in a "seeding" game with the huskies coming away with an easy 7 - 1 victory. The boys again continued to backcheck strong to eliminate any scoring chances, with the D holding their own again. POG: Ricky Johnstone (hat trick).
On Sunday the boys entered the elimination RD's with a 4-0 record and holding the second seed (GF/GA)...they would face Uxbridge in the semi's and would come out with a 2-1 victory in another hard fought battle. The Final had the Huskies vs the Ajax Knights....another close game in which both teams battled for the gold. The Huskies were led by Steven Gibson and the lone goal on a fabulous forecheck to score the game winner. Aiden held of the knights for his second shutout of the tournament POG: Steven Gibson
